Opening of a New CO 2 Liquefaction and Dry Ice Plant in Zörbig, Germany

Nippon Sanso in Europe (Germany) has opened a state-of-the-art CO₂ purification plant in Zörbig, Germany. The facility uses renewable, bio-based CO₂ generated by an adjacent bioethanol production facility to manufacture food-grade liquid carbon dioxide and dry ice. By completing CO₂ recovery, purification, and product manufacturing at a single site, the plant reduces reliance on fossil-derived CO₂ and improves transport efficiency, with an expected reduction of up to 380,000 truck-kilometers and approximately 330 tons of CO₂ emissions per year. The project supports decarbonization in the food, mobility, and agriculture sectors, while contributing to the development of a sustainable supply chain and the realization of a carbon-neutral society.
